I don't know why this old song kept running through my head the other day but it was driving me crazy! First, there is the irritation
of the melody repeating ad nauseam. Then there are the lyrics, which are definitely from another era!
Hey, little girl, (if she's married she is probably a woman now)Comb your hair, fix your make-up. (is that before or after she scrubs the toilet?)
Soon he will open the door. ( all by himself?)
Don't think because
There's a ring on your finger,
You needn't try any more ( is that a finger ring or a nose ring? )
For wives should always be lovers, too. ( versus husbands who must be seduced?)Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you. ( He worked all day while you did what?)I'm warning you.
Day after day,
There are girls at the office, ( And he doesn't have to worry about competing with the men you come into contact with?)And men will always be men.
Don't send him off
With your hair still in curlers.
You may not see him again. (But he can sit around in his robe and gristly face all week end and you should be at his elbow or feet?)
For wives should always be lovers, too.
Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you.
He's almost here.
Hey, little girl (here we go again...)
Better wear something pretty,
something you'd wear to go to the city. ( you mean the little lady is allowed to go to the city!)
And dim all the lights,
Pour the wine, start the music.
Time to get ready for love. ( Gosh, she must be primed and ready to seduce him by now! )
Oh, time to get ready,
Time to get ready,
Time to get ready
For love.
Now, of course my brain kept changing the words to a more updated version.
Hey there you lug,
comb your hair, pick your socks up,
soon she will come through the door.
Don't think because there's a ring on her finger
you needn't try anymore.
For husbands should always be helpful too,
either cook her dinner or wash the dishes when your through.
Day after day there are guys at her office
who are happy to open her door
Don't sit around while she does all the housework
or she might not come home to you.
For husbands should always do their share too
Put down your remote and help until the work is through.
She's almost there.
Hey there big man put on something fresh and clean now
something you laundered your self,
something you'd wear on a date would be good!
And dim all the lights,
Pour the wine, start the music.
and maybe she'll be ready for love.
Oh, time to get ready,
Time to get ready,
Time to get ready
For love.
Now that I got that out of my system maybe this song will stop haunting me!

I'd never heard the original (lucky me!). Your parody is A-1.
Believe it or not that was on the top charts in 1963 by Jack Jones and was written by Burt Bacharach. It was outdated thinking even then but was popular probably for its nostalgic quality...
